$449.00 This is the AIM Satelite Signal Meter by Directv. The AIM (Advance Installation Meter) is a DIRECTV specific satellite installation meter. This meter has an easy to read display and keypad, powers all Directv LNBs includding the SWM LNB like the SL3 and the SL5.

The DIRECTV Advanced Installation Meter, or AIM, is a state-of-the-art installation meter. The AIM was developed to accomplish a few different goals, including:

• Simplifying ODU pointing by assisting technician with Slimline dithering process
• Increasing confidence that IRDs will pass Installation Verification by enabling Extended IV (EIV) at the ODU
• Providing DC power to all LNBs including SL3S and SL5S
• Providing capabilities not available in other meters in order to troubleshoot installations more efficiently and identify defective equipment quickly

Meter Differences:

Many of you may have used other meters in the past as well, such as BirDog, Accutrac or a Super Buddy, so you may be wondering what’s different. Here are a few of the many differences between the BirDog and the AIM:

BirDog

  • Reads SQ (Signal Quality) of the corresponding orbital slot.

AIM

  • Provides a signal power measurement in actual dBm.
  • Low cost measurement of the
    signal strength received.
  • Measures signal to noise,
    frequency offset and signal
    quality (IRD Measurement).
    The signal shown on the AIM
    is the same as what a DIRECTV
    receiver will show.
  • Rounds measurement
  • Checks specific transponders
    and associated carrier frequencies of each DIRECTV satellite.

These are just a few of the many differences between the AIM and the other meters on the market, and as we have a chance to use them hands-on later in the training, you will be able to experience all of the great features of the AIM.

AIM Features and Benefits:

Installation:
• Point all DIRECTV ODUs

• Run EIV at any location within installation

Efficient, Rugged, and Versatile

The AIM Was developed by DIRECTV, Trilithic and Indesign to provide customized features for installing and troubleshooting DIRECTV Satellite receiver systems. The AIM is a rugged meter suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. A fully charged AIM can be use for all aspects of installation and troubleshooting as many as six single-family homes.

The AIMs large display and keypad make it easy to navigate to the many features of the meter. On-screen directions guide the technician through ODU installation, extended installation verification, and other troubleshooting tests. A USB port is providedto transfer data from the AIM to a flash drive, and for upgrading the AIM firmware.

Extended Installation Verification (EIV)
EIV can be performed right after ODU alignment whiel the technician is on the roof to uickly confirm that pointing is satisfactory. This gives the installer confidence that IRDs isntalledi n the home will pass IV. EIV can also be used as troubleshooting tool to pinpoint problems anywhere within a distribution network.

Troubleshooting
Several additiona troubleshooting features can be used to quickly identify fault equipment in an installation. the AIM Allows testing of individual cable runs in the distribution network, tuning to any DIRECTV satellite transponder, testing communications between the SWiM and the IRD, measuring in-line voltage, curretn and tone, and performing a complete transponder survey.
